Introduction

This article provides you with an overview of Speech Direct 3.0; the complete user manual can be downloaded here.

Using Speech Direct

Click on the desktop icon to start the application.

Log in with your credentials.

The app opens in a small window displaying the user name.

Using Compact Mode

Move with the mouse over the application to get more options.

Click on the down arrow to compact the window:

=> In compact mode the application minimises to only display the microphone icon.

Move your mouse again over the microphone icon to bring up the options and the menu.

Use the tab on the left to move the app freely with the mouse (click and drag) to a location on your screen where it does not disturb you.

Start dictating

The blue icon indicates that the microphone is OFF.

Click on the microphone icon to start recording. When the microphone is active the icon turns red.

NOTE: Changing these options affects only the current user profile.

Please see the complete user manual for details on the formatting settings
1 - 12.

Auto text

Build auto-texts to use a (short) voice command to implement standardised boilerplate text.

Create a list of commonly used or customised abbreviations and the respective full length text.

You are the owner of your entries; add as many entries as you need.

There can be facility entries too, which you can make use of or disable.

Dictionary

This dictionary is about speech recognition rather than the meaning of a word. If a term is not easily recognised by the speech recognition system you can add it here in the correct spelling.

Sort your terms into categories and exclude terms if you find that a word is falsely recognised.

Command builder

Create customised and complex command chains to simulate an entire sequence of actions which is executed by voice. A command chain can save you using the keyboard or mouse to preform certain actions during a dictation.

Commands work in groups.

You can define various scenarios when a group with its commands should be available.

There are the following command types to work with:

  • Text

  • Key

  • Comment

  • Window

  • Command

  • Script

  • Mouse

  • Wait

View an example of a command chain / sequence of actions here.

Speech box

If required, you can dictate into the SpeechBox and copy the contents into another application when you are done.

Speech Direct is able to detect that an unsupported application should be used and the speech box is triggered automatically.

All dictations will appear in this box and are available for reuse. Just click on Copy Text to do so.

Resize the speech box with your mouse pointer at the lower right corner.

You can also adjust transparency.

If you prefer not to use the Speech box you can whitelist an unsupported application.

Settings

In this section you have general settings to adjust Speech Direct for optimised performance.

Microphone

You can also test your microphone here: say something and the blue bar indicates detected input.

Internal microphone

This is the build-in microphone of your PC. It's the default microphone if you do not work with other devices. It will be recognised automatically.

To change the microphone select a different entry from the list.

External microphone(s)

If you connect an external microphone it will be displayed in the list. Normally, your external device will be recognised automatically, and is ready for use.

Mobile phone as a microphone

Use the option T-Pro Speech Remote Microphone (see the above screenshot) if you want to use your mobile phone as an external microphone.

See here for details on how to work with T-Pro Speech Remote Microphone.

Inactivity timeout

Move the slider to increase the inactivity timeout. The default setting is 1 minute.

Whitelist applications

If Speech Direct cannot recognize an application you commonly work with you can whitelist it in this area.

Should an application not be listed the Speech box will be triggered.

Dictation focus

When enabled, you can switch windows and all dictations will stay locked to the app where the recording began. Note that by default the dictation focus is disabled.

Use the slider to activate.

Hot key

You can use hot keys to start and stop recording or to minimise and maximise the Speech Direct application.

Delete the default keys and customise by pressing your own key combination in the field. Save your new settings.
